The Children's House
Mariposa
Montessori’s Children’s
House program consists
of one class with one
certified Montessori
guide and one assistant
in a environment with a
maximum of 18 children ages 3 to 6 years old. Our Children’s House program addresses the natural development of the child that includes their physical, emotional, and cognitive skills. The prepared environment is child-centered.
Each classroom provides an environment in which the child feels secure and confident; where there is freedom of choice, responsibility to oneself, and a rich variety of work from which to choose. There is freedom of movement to allow for social interaction, care of the environment, and individual expression. The four core curriculum areas are practical life, sensorial, language, and math. In addition, a Montessori curriculum includes geography, cultures of the world, science, and nature studies.
Each classroom is designed to be the “child’s environment”. Materials are in sequential order on the shelves: known to unknown, concrete to abstract, simple to complex. Children are free to select activities that promote learning and independence.
