Summer Camp 2010

June 7 – 11:  Summer fun & Introduction to summer routine

June 14 – 18:   Art: Art week will allow the children to express themselves through many different mediums. This year the theme of the week is "Art About Me." During the program they will be able to express themselves through drawing, sculpting, and crafting. Some project ideas include: life-sized drawings of each child where the child will be able to portray himself/herself, drawing to music, and making sculptures of subjects of the child's own choosing. Instructors: Jillian Hall

June 21 – 25:  Music: During music week we will introduce the children to some of the great artists in music history. They will learn about a diverse range of music from country (Woody Guthrie) to rock and roll (The Beatles). The children will get the chance to see, hear, and play with real musical instruments as well as make their own that they can bring home! Instructors: Tina Mowrey

June 28 – July 2:  Theater: Your child’s imagination will soar as we discover and practice the art of live storytelling with movement exercises, vocal exercises and performance art. Instructor: Mr. James Brownlee (one of our wonderful Children’s House Assistants).

July 6 – July 9:  Spanish: Spanish week will use song, food, art, and games to introduce the children to the many different cultures in which Spanish is spoken, and to see how Spanish is an important part of our culture in Austin, Texas. It will be an interactive and fun way for the children to develop an understanding of our global community through a love of languages. Instructor: Ms. Cheryl

July 12 – 16:  Gardening/Nature: Children will explore plants, their life cycle and the wonders of nature through planting, artwork, snacks and stories. A variety of experiences and fun awaits each child as they enjoy hands-on exploration of a few of the wonders of our natural world! Instructors: Returning from last year’s camp, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbreth (Becca and Joe).

July 19 – 23: Earth Science : This class will give a basic understanding of the physical world around us. The children will be exposed to numerous earth sciences, including geology, soil science, hyrdology, and meteorology. We will work with many objects outdoors, including rocks, soil, and water, and materials indoors including a hands on volcano and a water tornado. Instructor: Ms. Tristan
